The Government called on the Opposition to “bring on” the no confidence motion. Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo, today said that is exactly what his party will be doing this Friday when the motion comes up for debate and a vote.
Although the Opposition is in the minority by one seat, Mr. Jagdeo said that it is the Government that appears to be in a panic over the no confidence vote.
He told a press conference today that while the President David Granger led coalition is saying one thing publicly, he knows for sure that privately, they are panicking.
“And that panic state of uncertainty has caused them to resort to the old PNC way of doing things. So I know for sure that apart from the occasional threats to our MPs, passed on in a joking manner, they are threats”, he said.
Jagdeo said the coalition government has become “arrogant”, especially with the way it is addressing criticism and concerns. He noted that, that is one of the reasons behind the no confidence motion.
The Opposition Leader told reporters that he is aware of plans to disrupt the National Assembly if one of the Government MPs vote in favour of the no-confidence motion.
He did not offer more details, but said he intends to inform the Speaker of the House on some of the things he has been hearing.
The no-confidence motion is set for this Friday. The Government has said that it is confident that the motion will be defeated.
