General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo today denounced claims that his party is bullying contractors and some government part-time workers to join its elections campaign.
At a Freedom House press conference this afternoon, Mr. Jagdeo was questioned about the claims thst some 10-day workers and contractors have been pressed to join his party’s re-election campaign.
He said the energy is high in his party’s camp and people are freely volunteering their time to be part of the elections campaign.
“We are not bullying people to come, we want people to come to launch, it is going to be a short campaign. If you look at the energy, I have rarely seen this sort of energy in a campaign, a lot of people are volunteering all across the country and we don’t need to pay people to put up our flags, the support in Georgetown alone can manage all of our affairs,” Jagdeo said.
Mr. Jagdeo promised that his party will run a positive elections campaign that will focus heavily on its plans for the future and what is has to offer Guyanese.
The PPP is set to launch its campaign this Sunday in Kitty.

“You are going to see happy people there, you are not going to see people who are forced to come there because our message is positive, we are working for all Guyana and bringing people together across race, and everyone is included,” Jagdeo said.
And acknowledging that young voters will be key to the upcoming elections, Mr. Jagdeo urged them not to vote with their emotions.
“Many people are born APNU and have an emotional attachment, not the young people too much because they can’t afford an emotional attachment, because that emotional attachment may lead to disaster in your personal live, you have to be very sensible, you have to use your sense in making decision, because that is that is what will lead to a prosperous life, “Mr. Jagdeo said.
The PPP General Secretary said his party will not be engaged in optical politics for the upcoming elections, but intends to present a programme for Guyanese people to see its vision.
