Natural Resources Minister Raphael Trotman has fired back at Opposition Leader Bharat Jagdeo’s claims of the Guysuco board being incompetent and that British company Booker Tate being responsible for the rundown of the multi million dollar Skeldon Factory.

Trotman said Jagdeo’s criticism now is a classic case of “a bad worker blaming his tools.”

“It is your methodology, your penchant for entering the affairs of the company, of putting persons who had no business being around there (Skeldon) that led to the destruction”, Trotman said, as he reminded that all of the problems facing the Skeldon sugar factory were as a result of decisions made while Jagdeo was in government. 

The Minister was at the time speaking at the weekly Post-Cabinet briefing. He echoed the same sentiments as Chairman of the Guysuco Board, Dr Clive Thomas, noting that it was an effort by Jagdeo to draw a smoke screen over and to “Kerfuffle” the Guyanese populace.

Trotman noted that the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of the previous PPP led administration, and added that there is no way that Booker Tate could be blamed for the poor state of Guyana’s sugar industry.

When asked whether or not the government would be rehiring Booker Tate, he said that no decision has been made by Government to rehire the management company.

Speaking on the closure of the Wales Estate, he noted that the senior Administration Staff would be shifted around or merged with the Uitvlugt estate but expressed that he did not know what would become of the lands or labourers at Wales.
