Just when you thought you have seen it all with efforts to get cocaine out of Guyana, a Jamaican national was on Wednesday busted with a fresh approach that simply could not stick.
The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit has arrested a 54-year-old Jamaican man who attempted to ship just over one pound of cocaine in several roll on deodorant bottles through the Post Office.
According to a senior CANU official, agents based at the Post Office found it strange that the man was shipping the low cost deodorant from Guyana.
Upon a closer examination of the package, the agents noticed that although the labels on the bottles carried various flavours, the scent was the same.
When the roll on balls were removed, the cocaine was found neatly concealed in the bottles.
The man was immediately arrested and is expected to be charged before the end of the week.
The bust by CANU agents came just hours after Police Narcotics Branch agents found more than 175 pounds of cocaine in frozen fish at the Cheddi Jagan airport that was about to be shipped to New York.
Drug Enforcement Agents have been stepping up their monitoring of cargo and other shipments as they intensify efforts to dent the local drug trade.
