The ExxonMobil company over the weekend confirmed a small leak of oil from the Liza Unity oil production vessel. 

The company said a sheen was observed on the water in the vicinity of the vessel and initial investigations indicated that approximately one barrel of crude oil was released during a maintenance activity on the vessel.

Exxon said the activity was immediately stopped and the leak isolated.

The company also said surveillance by helicopter confirmed that there was no sheen in the area, except for a light sheen which was seen approximately 20 km (13 miles) North West of the vessel.

By midday Satuday, a support vessel in the area confirmed no further sign of a sheen, the company indicated.

The Environmental Protection Agency and other Government agencies were notified of the leak, the company stated.  There has been no official statement from the Government on the issue.
