The 53-year-old man, who was two weeks ago found guilty of raping a 3-year-old girl, was today sentenced to life in prison.
The convict, Deon Aaron from Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Justice, Jo-Ann Barlow today and continued to declare his innocence as the life in prison sentence was handed down.
The courtroom was packed with relatives of the convict and the victim.
A probation report was offered to the Court before the sentence was handed down.
The probation officer, who spoke with the child to compile the report, told the Court that the child is aware of what was done to her and said that the man had hurt her and made her cry and that he “would be sin” for what he had done.
The convict showed no signs of emotion as he was led off to prison, but continued to say that he had not raped the young child.
The incident occurred in March of 2016, at Friendship Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara. The man was arrested and charged after it was found that the child had been sexually penetrated.
