At the High Court today, 31-year-old, David Alexander, was sentenced to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to raping an 8-year-old girl.
Alexander, who appeared before Justice JoAnn Barlow opted not to endure a trial and entered the guilty plea to the charge as the Judge started the case.
The incident took place on the 24th February 2015. The man was arrested after he was found to have sexually penetrated the young child.
Through his Attorney, Clyde Forde, the man admitted to the crime and claimed that at the time of the incident he was drunk and cannot remember all that occurred on the day of the incident.
In his own words, the convict offered an apology to the Court and his victim, as he explained that he had never had any previous issue with the law.
In a letter to the Court, the young victim expressed her ongoing hurt over the incident, explaining that it was something she will never forget. The child said she thought she was about to be killed.
Before handing down her sentence, Justice Barlow said being drunk cannot be an excuse for the crime committed.
She further explained that the child was tramautized by the incident and had to undergo surgeries for the injuries she sustained during the heinous act.
With the man’s guilty plea, the Judge handed down the life in prison sentence and the convict was led away from the Courtroom to begin the jail sentence.
