Police investigators in Linden are probing the murder of 28-year-old Romel Toney, who was slashed to death by his own brother during an argument at their worksite at Millie’s Hideout in Amelia’s Ward.
The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Calvin Toney. The two brothers were reportedly working on a land clearing project together and spent Saturday afternoon at a small shop drinking alcoholic beverages.
It was reported that the girlfriend of the older brother, Romel Toney, was accompanying them back to their worksite when he allegedly started to hit on her. At the worksite, the younger brother reportedly attempted to intervene and an argument broke out between the two brothers.
The younger brother reportedly armed himself with a cutlass and slashed the older brother during that confrontation.
The injured man was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The suspect was arrested and statements have since been taken from eyewitnesses and the murder weapon has been recovered.
Charges are likely to be filed this week.
