Police in the mining town of Linden are investigating a suspected murder-suicide case.

According to reports out of the town, 17-year-old Linden Technical Institute student, Toisha Andrew was shot dead this afternoon by her 21-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Kellon Cato at her Block 22, Wismar home. The assailant’s body was also found at the scene with the a .32 pistol just next to it.

The incident occurred at around 4:30pm.

It is unclear what led to the incident, but investigators were told that the teenage girl had just returned home from school when the boyfriend approached her and opened fire, hitting her to the head.

According to reports, the teenage girl fell to the ground and the man reportedly shot himself just after.

The young woman was pronounced dead the Linden Hospital, while the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The assailant was a taxi driver, who was also employed under the 10-day worker programme in the community.

Investigations are ongoing.
