Local Pilot to face trafficking in persons charges -Police

The Guyana Police Force has announced that it has received advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions to file trafficking-in-persons charges against local pilot and businessman, Orlando Charles of Georgetown.

In a Monday night statement, the Police said the 45-year-old pilot has been investigated for 16 counts of trafficking in persons, related to the alleged trafficking of 16 Venezuelan nationals between Mazaruni in Region Seven and Georgetown.

The Police Force’s statement said the alleged victims reported the matter to the Police and an investigation was conducted by the Trafficking in Persons Unit of the Police Force. It is believed that the alleged trafficking in persons incidents took place between the 1st November 2022 and the 18th May, 2023.

The Guyana Police Force’s TIP Unit, said in its efforts to combat Trafficking in Persons, it will continue to work with other stakeholders to conduct intelligence-led operations, spot inspections, awareness, and training in every region of Guyana.

The pilot is expected in Court this week.
