Mahaica man stabbed to death during afternoon drinking spree

A holiday celebration in the East Coast Demerara village of Mahaica came to an abrupt end on Sunday afternoon when two men got into a heated fight and one of them was stabbed to death.

Police investigators are probing the murder of  43-year-old Sheldon Richards of Supply, Mahaica.

According to reports, Richards and a relative were having a “holiday drink” at his home when they became involved in an argument.

An angry Richards grabbed a piece of wood and lashed the relative to the head. The relative responded by pulling out a knife and stabbed Richards to the Chest.

The drunk Richards collapsed on his bridge and died. The relative who also sustained injuries was treated then handed over to the Police. He is expected to face murder charges this week.

Guyana has recorded over 115 murders for this year already. This past Christmas weekend was one of the bloodiest with at least five murders being committed during personal conflicts.
