The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into the murder of a Venezuelan national at Eteringbang landing in the Cuyuni region.
According to a Police statement, the Venezuelan national, Henry Mendonca, and a Guyanese man who was known to him, traveled to the area from Venezuela late last night and were involved in a drinking spree.
However, the two men got into an argument an it was during the misunderstanding that the Guyanese man, who lives in Venezuela, broke a bottle and stabbed Mendonca twice to his abdomen.
The Venezuelan man was rushed to the San Martin Hospital in Venezuela but was pronounced dead on arrival. The Guyanese national is in custody as the investigations are underway.
Many Guyanese and Venezuelans who live in the bordering region would cross over easily between the two countries to make purchases and for work. Many of them work in the mining communities on the Guyana side of the border.
