A 37-year-old Venezuelan national was stabbed to death on Sunday morning outside a bar, while he partied with his wife. Another Venezuelan is the prime suspect.

Police have identified the dead man as Oscar Sanchez, who lived at Eccles on the East Bank of Demerara with his wife, who is also from Venezuela.

The Police statement occurred that the couple was with a group of friends at a Grove, East Bank Demerara bar early on Sunday morning when another Venezuelan man, who was known to them both, attacked the wife and tried to steal her purse.

A confrontation broke out between the wife and the suspected thief and the woman’s husband, Oscar Sanchez became involved.

During the physical confrontation between the two men, the suspect used a knife that he had in his possession to stab Sanchez repeatedly to the body.

The injured man collapsed and died from the injuries, which included multiple stab wounds. The entire Sunday morning incident was caught on surveillance video recording from the bar.

The suspect, whose name has not been provided, managed to escape from the area and has not been seen since. The Police indicated that efforts are underway to track down and arrest the suspect.
