Crime Scene Investigators from the Guyana Police Force rushed to the scene of a murder-suicide at Mahaica on the East Coast of Demerara early on Saturday morning.
A 26-year-old woman who has been identified as Vanessa Richmond was hammered to death by her husband in the couple’s Jonestown, Mahaica home. The man reportedly drank a poisonous substance early on Saturday morning and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His name has been given as only “Ryan”.
According to persons in the area, early on Saturday morning the man ran over to his neighbour’s yard and collapsed after he reportedly ingested a poisonous liquid. Neighbours who decided to go into his house in search of his wife, discovered the woman’s body on the bed with her feet and hands tied. She was dressed only in an underwear and there was a blood stained pillow over her head.
Police investigators were seen removing a blood stained hammer from the scene. According to one neighbour, the husband and wife were seen at a “hang out” in the village on Friday night and they may have had a disagreement at the scene. The two reportedly went home together.
Persons in the area said they heard no noise coming from the couple’s home which investigators believe may indicate that the woman was probably tied up and hammered to death in her sleep.
Neighbours say the couple appeared very quiet and “to themselves”. The man was a farmer and vegetables vendor who was well-known in the East Coast village. Police investigators are continuing their probe.
