A murder-suicide case in the Essequibo coast village of Riverston has left family members devastated and a community in shock.
This morning Police investigators rushed to a rice field in the Riverston area after a woman filed a complaint that her daughter was being threatened by her reputed husband who was a Police officer.
By the time investigators rushed to the scene where the woman told her mother she was, they found the bodies of Police Sergeant Rory Francis and his reputed wife Christine Boston.
The woman’s body was found lying in the rice field a short distance away from the man’s car. The Police Sergeant was in the car in an unconscious state.
The woman’s body bore injuries that were consistent with being hit down and run over by a car. Investigators believe the man killed the woman by driving over her body, then ingested a poisonous substance.
The woman was pronounced dead on the spot while Francis was rushed to the Suddie hospital where he died a few hours later.
Investigators found a bottle with a suspected poisonous substance close to the man’s car at the scene.
Family members have been left confused by the murder-suicide. One relative said they were unaware whether the couple was having any problems but they never expected that the man would have taken the life of his children’s mother then took his own life.
Persons who knew the Police officer expressed shock and dismay. They said he always appeared easy-going and respectful and the incident has raised more questions that it has provided answers.
Investigations are ongoing.
