As Police investigators widen their probe into the theft of $400 million worth of raw gold from the home of a Mahaica businesswoman, the Police Force issued wanted bulletins today for three additional suspects in the case.
Wanted bulletins were issued this afternoon for 22-year-old Mark Singh of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, 27-year-old Andray Duncan of Grove, East Bank Demerara and 51-year-old Damien Brummel of Vreed-en-hoop, West Coast Demerara.
The Police said all three men are wanted for questioning about the theft of 1000 ounces of gold from a Kaneville, Mahaica home.
The Police said the incident occurred between July 2021 and September 2022.
Earlier this week after being pressed for information about the investigations, the Guyana Police Force admitted that a number of persons including two Police officers were arrested and questioned in connection with the gold heist.
A contractor and a construction worker were the only two persons charged so far in connection with the theft of the gold. The construction worker pleaded guilty to the crime and has since been sentenced to four years in jail. The other accused who pleaded not guilty was remanded to jail.
According to the Police, the men were hired by a Mahaica businesswoman to carry out repair works at her home. The men while doing the construction work reportedly stumbled over the 1000 ounces of raw gold that was stashed in the house.
The men reportedly carted off the gold, sold some of it to a city gold dealer and went on a shopping spree.
The Police indicated earlier this week that as part of the investigations, crime sleuths were able to seize a number of recently purchased cars, a canter truck, $6 million cash and 28 ounces of raw gold.
The Police Force has kept the identity of the businesswoman who filed the complaint hidden. There have been questions about the amount of gold that was stored at the home and whether it may be linked to smuggling efforts or possible money laundering.
The Guyana Police Force has not indicated whether its investigations are also examining those questions.
