Man shot at State House after attacking and disarming Policeman; Both men hospitalised

Police investigators are probing the attack of a Police rank at State House, which is the official residence of the President.

The man, who has not been named, reportedly approached the security booth and the Police rank at around 7:30 this morning and told him that he wants the President.

A Police statement said the man pulled a knife from his waist and repeatedly stabbed the Policeman before disarming him of his weapon.

According to the Police, the man who is of mixed race, then drew the firearm, retreated to Carmichael Street and fired several rounds.

The security detail at the President’s residence returned fire, injuring the suspect.

A 9MM pistol and seven 9MM spent shells were retrieved.

The Police said both the suspect and the Police rank were rushed to the GPHC for medical attention. Their conditions are stated as serious.

Persons in the area said several shots were fired during the exchange between the man and the Presidential guards. Traffic came to a standstill as persons in the area darted for cover.

Investigations are on going.
