Police Force tightlipped on attack at State House

More than 24hrs after the attack at the President’s official residence, which left a presidential guard critically injured and his attacker also in a critical state, the Guyana Police Force remains tightlipped on the investigations.

There are reports that the Police Force continues to gather information on the suspect who remains hospitalized nursing multiple gunshot wounds.

The Nigerian man repeatedly stabbed the Presidential Guard before disarming him and retreating to one of the surrounding streets and opening fire.

Other Presidential guards and the Police returned fire and hit the suspect, arresting him after he fell with his injuries.

This evening, there are questions about the man’s state of mind as investigators try to figure out a motive for the attack.

A former employer of the man told News Source that he is convinced that the suspect was on a suicide mission.  According to the former employer, there is no way anyone in their right mind would attack a security agent at a location with scores of armed security agents then open fire on them and not expect a response.

The suspect

The man has been living in Guyana for a number of years and has worked with a number of companies including security companies.  His last job was with a cleaning company. Sources close to his current and past employers said they were shocked to learn of his involvement since he came across as a quiet person, who simply did not say much.

A former employer said when he was hired by his company, he presented himself well and had a police clearance and a work permit to work legally in Guyana.

The Police Force, despite repeated questions from the media, has ignored the queries. There has been no press conference on the attack and the investigations and few details have been offered.

Since the Force’s initial release on the attack yesterday morning, it has not offered any other statement, as of news time.

Meanwhile a number of local and regional groups have condemned the attack at the residence of the President.
