Mechanic remanded to jail over murder of Gold Mining Supply Manager

A post mortem examination on the body of 42-year-old Neil Whyte found that he was stabbed multiple times to the body.  Police investigators picked up the taxi driver based on information received and he reportedly led them to an Alberttown house where they were able to recover the murder weapon and some of the dead man's belongings.

One week after the Supply Manager of a local mining company was found dead in his Georgetown apartment, the main suspect in the stabbing murder made made his first Court appearance this afternoon.

He was remanded to jail after being charged with the capital offence of murder.

20-year-old mechanic, Anthony Ragnuath, appeared before Magistrate, Leron Daly and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge.

The Court heard that on the 21st May, 2018, at Thomas Street, South Cummingsburg, the young mechanic murdered Neil Whyte in his apartment. Whyte was a Canadian citizen who worked at Guyana Goldfields. His lifeless body was found naked with his hands tied and mouth gagged. 

One of the Attorneys representing the accused claimed that he was beaten by the Police while in custody. She requested that a medical examination be ordered. 

The matter will return to Court on June 18, 2018.

The dead man’s husband has since flown into Guyana from Canada to deal with the funeral and other arrangements.
