Family of child killed in hit and run accident cry out for justice

A 10-year-old girl died tragically on Saturday after she was hit down by a motorcyclist, who sped away from the scene.

The dead child has been identified as Gabriella Rodrigues. She was on her way home from church in the company of a cousin on Independence Bouvelard in Albouystown, when a speeding motorcyclist slammed into her. The motorcyclist, who is suspected to be a teenager, did not stop to offer any help.

The child’s grieving mother, Patricia Bernard, is demanding justice for her daughter.

Speaking to News Source, the mother described her daughter as loving and kind. She said the girl just started her final year in primary school and was preparing to write the common entrance exams next year.

“I want justice for my daughter, I know he is a child, but I want I justice for my daughter because while everybody else would be there to write Common Entrance (Exam), she won’t be there to write it. My daughter gets a hard hit because she got a broken neck,” the mother told News Source.

Suspect in fatal accident

The Guyana Police Force has not issued an official statement on the accident. However, family members of the dead child were able to get a video recording of the accident. The suspect’s face is seen in the footage

According to the mother, the family of the person responsible for her daughter’s death has not reached out, and she suspect’s he may have gone into hiding.

“And the guy brother, who hit her came at the hospital and when my daughter died, I went to him as a mother and said your brother is breathing and my daughter is not breathing and he said to me at the end of the day it was accident and I must remember that, that is the satisfaction he give me , you think that is fair, that is not fair,” the mother recalled.

10-year-old Gabriella Rodrigues was a student of the Kettley Primary school.
