Miner charged and remanded for Region One double murder

Two weeks after a drunken fight left two miners in the North West District dead, one of the men accused of stabbing the men to death appeared in Court this morning to face murder charges.

The murder accused, Kurtland Damon aka Carto appeared before Magistrate, Dylon Bess in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning after turning himself over to the Police just a few days ago after a wanted bulletin was issued for his arrest.

In court, he was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charges with stated that on Christmas Eve, he murdered gold miners 29-year-old Sherwin Goddett and 21-year-old, Shawn France.

The accused was remanded to prison until the 15th February. Another suspect in the double murder was initially arrested but later released by investigators.

The two miners who were stabbed to death were accused of starting a fight at a bar in the area on Christmas eve night, leaving a number of persons injured.

As they made their way back to their mining camp the same night, they were attacked and stabbed to death.  An investigation by the Police led to wanted bulletins being issued for two suspects.
