A 47-year-old man from Mocha on the East Bank of Demerara, who was expected in Court today to face a rape charge, has died after falling ill in the East Ruimveldt Police lock-ups.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said Stonie Henry, who was a welder, was arrested yesterday in connection with an investigation into the rape of a 16-year-old girl.
He was expected in Court this morning to answer to the rape charge, however, at around 6:15 this morning, he was seen vomiting in the lock-ups.
He reportedly told inquiring Police guards that he was feeling unwell. The Police Officers rushed him to the Georgetown Hospital, where he died less than two hours later.
His body is in the hospital’s mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
