Mohamed has plans for criminal justice reform and cold case unit

Presidential Candidate for the We Invest in Nationhood party, Azruddin Mohamed, has promised to set up a cold case unit to investigate all unsolved murders in Guyana to provide justice to families.

Mr. Mohamed, a first time contender for the Presidential race, is confident of his party’s chances at Monday’s Elections and he is promising a range of reforms for the criminal justice system.

The Presidential Candidate, who remains sanctioned by the US Government over allegations of tax evasion and under declaration of gold made the comments during a released recorded interview with his party’s General Secretary, Odessa Primus.

“I will spare no resources to ensure that family must get justice. I will set up a cold case unit to investigate all murders that happened in the past, so that the family must get justice” Mr. Mohamed promised.

The WIN leader also promised a full investigation into the death of Adrianna Younge within his first 100 days in office, should he be elected.

He said he believes that the Government is at the heart of the failure of the country’s criminal justice system, and the way in which investigations are being done.

“Police has got to do police work that is the problem. First of all, I would not accept, none of my ministers to call the Commissioner of police or any commander to give them instructions to release persons, police must do police work and that is the problem and that is what transpired with that same story with Adriana Younge, and that is what transpired based on what we saw,” Mohamed said.

The WIN Presidential Candidate also promised to have to closer look of the Mahdia dorm fire which killed 20 children in May 2023.

According to Mohamed, many parents have been reaching out to him claiming that no moves are being made to ensure that families get justice, instead families have been offered small amount of monies as compensation, he said.
