Leader of the We Invest In Nationhood Party, Azruddin Mohamed has expressed surprise at the outcome of the election for a Regional Chairman in Region 10, where his party’s Candidate Mark Goring has tied with APNU’s Dominique Blair for the position of Chairman.
Although the Win party won the most votes in the region, it does not have enough Council seats to take the Chairmanship and would instead need the support of one Councilor to take the Chairmanship.
With the WIN party claiming that all 9 of its Councillors supported its candidate, it appeared as though the PPP Councillors and the one Forward Guyana Councillor threw their support behind the APNU Candidate resulting in the tie.
“Right now its 9-9 and clearly you can see that the PPP, the APNU and the FGM, they all voted together and WIN voted separated because with their nine its five from the APNU, the three from PPP and one from FGM, I don’t know why all of these parties are trying to work together to get WIN out,” Mr. Mohamed questioned.
With the stalemate now at the Region 10 Democratic Council, the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development will now have to convene a special meeting to elect the Regional Chairman. The Minister has a casting vote and Mr. Mohamed said he is looking keenly to see how the Minister will vote there.

“We won this region, and we really want to represent the people of this region because you know, for years now region has left behind, so we wanted to win the Chairmanship so we could have represented the best interest of the people, but I think now the Minister of Local Government she has to make the pick between WIN and APNU so let’s see who see will pick, that’s what we are waiting for to see who the PPP will pick if they will pick APNU,” Mohamed said.
The WIN leader said his party is interested in the Chairmanship of the Region and said he is still in shock it was not smooth sailing for his party’s candidate.
Mohamed said there seems to be a pattern where the PPP and APNU are working to keep WIN party out from governing.
