A 28-year-old motorcyclist died on Sunday after losing control of his motorcycle and slamming into a pedestrian before hitting a utility pole.
Motorcyclist Naitram Sankar of Argricola, East Bank Demerara, was part of a group of motorcyclists riding along the Queenstown Public Road in Essequibo yesterday afternoon, when tragedy struck.
A Police report explained that while Sankar was proceeding along the roadway at a fast rate, he ended up on the parapet and slammed into a pedestrian before coming to a stop when he collided with a utility pole.
Both the motorcyclist and the 56-year-old female pedestrian were taken to the Suddie hospital. The injured woman was admitted with a fractured hip, while Doctors pronounced the motorcyclist dead.
Friends of the motorcyclist said he was in good spirits moments before the crash and was even with friends playing pools at a pool hall in the community.
An investigation has been launched.
