The 21-year-old mechanic who was gunned down in Sophia on Monday evening and his friend who was injured in the attack by two men were both witnesses in an ongoing murder case.
A relative of the dead youth, Jaleel Leow, told News Source today that he was a witness to the murder of Sophia resident Kevin Campbell back in 2020.
Campbell was the brother of the friend who was injured in last evening’s attack.
One of the suspects in last evening’s deadly shooting incident in Sophia is a relative of one of the men facing trial for the 2020 murder of Kevin Campbell.
A Police statement said the young mechanic was with a group of friends in front of a house in Sophia when two men rode up on bicycles and issued a threat to a young woman who was hanging out with the men.
As the mechanic walked into the yard where the young woman lived, one of the men opened fire on him, shooting him to the back before standing closer to him and firing additional shots. The youth tried to escape from his attacker but collapsed.
The gunman also opened fire on his friend as the friend ran from the area.
The friend was grazed to one of his hands by a bullet. The attackers left the area on their bicycles as the two injured men were rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced Leow dead.
The search for the two suspects is ongoing.
