My home was built with a mortgage and personal savings -says Agriculture Minister

Minister of Agriculture and Executive Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party, Zulfikar Mustapha, has dismissed concerns from WIN Party Leader, Azruddin Mohamed, over the construction of his home in Bloomfield in Berbice and the construction of his son’s home on the East Bank of Demerara.

The Agriculture Minister said Mohamed has been attempting to insinuate that his home was acquired through corrupt means.

He said assertions made by Mohamed in a number of social media videos are completely untrue, fallacious, and devoid of merit.

Mohamed has raised questions about the amassing of wealth in a short time by the Minister and one of his sons.

Minister Mustapha said the construction of his house at Bloomfield, Berbice, was funded and financed exclusively through a mortgage obtained from Demerara Bank Limited and his personal savings accumulated through lawful employment.

He said he has lived a life dedicated to serving the people of Guyana, and his career now spans over 35 years.

He said in addition to serving as a Government MInister, he previously served as Member of Parliament and a Regional Chairman.

Mustapha explained that he has also been up to date with his declarations with the Integrity Commission, adding that he can account for all the assets that he owns.

With regards to his son and his property, Minister Mustapha said his son is a businessman and medical doctor, who has maintained a high standard of accountability, transparency, integrity, and professionalism.

The Minister said Instead of Mohamed pretending to be the guardian of corruption, he should be addressing his own corrupt practices.

The Minister said he has instructed his lawyers to review the posts made by Mohamed on social media with a view to taking any necessary legal action that will offer protection to him and his family.
