In keeping with his promise to members of the Disciplined Services, President Irfaan Ali on Thursday announced that members of the Disciplined Services will enjoy one month’s salary tax free as a bonus. He made the announcement while attending the Guyana Defence Force’s Camp Stephenson luncheon.
The President told members of the military that his Government will continue to make investments in the security services and their own lives. He encouraged them to take advantage of Government programmes that are geared towards their development, while thanking them for the job they do.
He reminded the members of the GDF to be cognizant of the threats to peace, even as they recommit themselves to preserving it.
He said they must also be mindful that those entrusted with arms, must be guided by judgment, discipline and moral clarity.
The President told the soldiers that the Government will remain a Government that they can trust and depend on, adding that the Government will remain one that gives to them and not take from them.
He noted that the bonus that is being given to members of the Disciplined Services will result in more than $2 BIllion in disposable income being provided to them during this festive time of the year.
