Opposition Leader granted leave to appeal being cut from budget cuts case

The Attorneys for Opposition Leader David Granger have been given the all clear to file their appeal in the Appellate Court against the decision of Chief Justice Ian Chang to remove the Opposition Leader from the budget cut case.

Granger’s attorneys have always argued that he should have been able present his side in the budget cut case as the Leader of the Opposition.

A full court hearing had indicated that it had no jurisdiction in the matter regarding the chief justice’s decision to exclude granger from the proceedings however on Monday, when the matter was called before justices James Bovell-Drakes and Rishi Persaud.

The two Judges granted leave for an appeal to the Appellate court.

Chief Justice Ian Chang ruled that the budget cuts were unconstitutional in the case brought by the Attorney General against the National Assembly. The National Assembly is also expected to appeal that ruling by the acting chief justice
