Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon is accusing President Irfaan Ali of making false promises to citizens all across the country.
Harmon’s comments came following the President’s visit to Linden on Thursday where he announced that residents of Region 10 will soon benefit from the construction of 1000 new homes. The President offered no details on the plan.
Today, Mr. Harmon said citizens don’t want promises.
“Before the elections, in fact as part of their manifesto which we had to see hanging on lantern post, there were all of these promises about 50, 000 house lots. Since Mr. Ali has been in office, he has gone around the country again making promises again, promises, promises, promises…”.
The Opposition Leader said, they are looking for delivery rather than promises. He stated that since the PPP/C took office, he has been looking for something that the party has delivered on.
During his press conference today, the Opposition Leader explained that at the last sitting of the National Assembly, the Minister with responsibility for housing spoke about a number of matters but made no reference to the construction of 1000 homes in Region 10.
“So this 1000 house lots that Mr. Irfaan Ali pull out of his hat like a rabbit, I don’t know where it’s coming from…”, Harmon said as he accused the PPP of never fulfilling promises made to Lindeners.
Harmon reminded that in a previous PPP government, the current President served as the Minister responsible for Housing.
He said back then, Region 10 citizens were promised 20,000 houselots but Ali never delivered on that. He said even former President Bharrat Jagdeo made promises that he failed to deliver when he served as President.
“he said, he was going to make it an Exclusive Economic Zone in which people will be able to come and invest in Linden and to be given tax holidays for 5 years and 10 years people went to him, they went with companies nothing happened…”.
The Region 10 community enjoys the majority support of the APNU+AFC coalition. Some citizens of the community have expressed the concern that during its five years in office, the APNU+AFC also did not deliver on promises that it made to the community.
