Just two days after the President highlighted the problem of domestic violence in Guyana in his New Year’s address, yet another woman has been killed in Guyana by her husband.

The woman has been identified as Marcia Adams of Paradise East Coast Demerara. She was reportedly stabbed to death by her reputed husband who has since turned himself into police.

The incident took place just after 7 o’ clock on Friday night when the two became involved in a heated argument at the woman’s East Coast home. During the argument, the reputed husband reportedly whipped out a  knife and stabbed and chopped the woman to death.

The mother of two was pronounced dead after she was rushed to a hospital.

The murder is being recorded as the first domestic violence reported murder of the New Year. The last domestic violence reported murder for 2013 was recorded just 15 minutes before the start of the new year.

The Ministry of Human Services has indicated that it intends to launch a number of programmes this year to assist in the fight against domestic violence. Guyana recorded over 25 domestic violence related murders in 2013.
