PNC Florida Chapter members file no-confidence motion against party leader; Norton sees motion as dead on arrival

The Florida Chapter of the People’s National Congress’ North American branch has filed a motion of no-confidence against party leader, Aubrey Norton. But Mr. Norton has explained that the PNC’s Constitution has no provisions for a no-confidence motion to be moved against the Party Leader.

The motion comes just over a year since Norton was elected Leader of the People’s National Congress.

The motion was moved by party members Larry London and John Yates and submitted to the North American PNC Group and forwarded to the party’s Central Executive Committee.

In the motion, the two members complained that one year has elapsed since Norton’s election and over the one year period, the PNCR has moved in a speedy downward Spiral.

They said the party’s image has been severely tarnished , and a Large number of its Members, Supporters and Sympathizers have lost interest in the party. They also complained that the business community has been withholding its support from the party.

London and Yates also cited recent statements by the party’s former Treasurer as cause for concern, saying that a significant number of financial members have now lost confidence in the leadership of Aubrey Norton and they want him to leave.

The motion said Norton has failed to unite the party and has also failed to mobilise for key political events, in addition to being unable to keep regional structures of the party alive.

They said the PNC Leader must carry the responsibility for the resignation of the party’s General Secretary and Treasurer.

Speaking to News Source this morning, the PNC Leader Aubrey Norton said the party’s constitution has no provisions for a no-confidence motion to be moved against the Leader. He said a special congress and elections could be called, but that would require two-thirds of the party’s membership.

“There is no provision in our Constitution for no-confidence in the Leader. Our Constitution provides for if you want to, you can call a special congress and you have to get two-thirds of the members to support a special congress. So I think, what the are doing here is just an attempt to do character assassination. They know that it has no basis in our Constitution and they know full well that they cannot succeed, and even if it were to go to the CEC, I do not see how it would succeed at the CEC”, Norton said.

He contended that the motion is dead on arrival, adding that several members of the Florida Chapter of the party, were never consulted about the motion and know nothing of it.

Norton was voted in as Leader of the PNC Reform in December 2021, trouncing his rival for the position, Joe Harmon in a landslide victory.

The two members who filed the motion are known party supporters of Mr. Harmon.
