Police Force defends Spanish signage on Police vehicles

The Guyana Police Force today defended its decision to have the spanish word for Police added to its vehicles, saying that the decision is part of the provision of broad based and efficient Police service to all Guyanese.

In the past two weeks, persons have noticed a number of Police vehicles with the word “Policia” emblazoned on their sides.

The Police Force further explained today that its also catering for foreign nationals and the influx of persons speaking spanish into Guyana.

The Force said its vehicles will have Police (in English) along with the GPF Logo and the word ‘Policia’ will be placed at the bottom of the English writing.

The Force claims the move is in keeping with the Guyana Police Force’s comprehensive and forward-thinking Strategic Plan (2022 to 2026) to be inclusive and build partnerships as it forges ahead to be a modern law-enforcement organisation.

The Force also said it is currently facilitating the teaching of different languages, including Spanish, Portuguese and Mandarin, to ranks of the Force.
