This seizure represents a small reduction from the amount seized in 2014 which stood 155.5 Kg. However these figures represent a major reduction from seizures in 2013 which surpassed 500 kg.

The Guyana Police Force has managed to seize a total of 149.7 kilograms of cocaine at for the year so far according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.

This seizure represents a small reduction from the amount seized in 2014 which stood 155.5 Kg. However these figures represent a major reduction from seizures in 2013 which surpassed 500 kg.

A breakdown of the stats shows the majority of cocaine interceptions occurring at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with 131kg being seized at the end of October.

Over at the Ogle International Airport, a total of 13kg cocaine was intercepted while 4kg cannabis was seized. The illicit substance continued to be concealed in false bottoms and sides of suitcases and strapped to the bodies of individuals.

Cocaine was also concealed in food and beverages including the cocaine in liquor, shrimps and Chinese food.

The Crime Chief said the police through its vigilance and intelligence gathering will continue to make dents in drug trafficking, both across the country and at ports of entry.

He could not say whether the reduction in seizures was as a result of a reduction in the supply trend. Meanwhile, a total of 13kg, 746g of cannabis (plants) were found and 37 acres eradicated.
