Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman has ordered the Police to hand over the Ruimveldt Police Station’s diary to the Court after Special Prosecutor, Glenn Hanoman, alleged that US indicted businessmen Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed have breached the conditions of their bail.
As part of the bail conditions in the ongoing extradition committal proceedings, the father and son are required to report to the Ruimveldt Police Station every Friday. However, the Court heard today that there may have been some breaches.
Hanoman told the Court that he has compiled a list of all the reported breaches.
“There were times when I noticed Mr. Nazar Mohamed was going earlier, and it is technically still a breach. And there were times when they arrived one day late, two days late. Mr. Azruddin Mohamed was absent at least twice,” Hanoman reported.
He told the Court that it is not for the father and the son to report as they see fit.
“The pattern that is there shows that they failed…as though they could report when they feel like, and not strictly comply with the timelines set by the Court,” he said.
However, Inspector Hinds of the Ruimveldt Police Station, who appeared in court today, was only able to present information from the station diary for the period March 6.
A Police Inspector was summoned to the Court and explained that according to the station diary, Nazar Mohamed reported to the station at 10:00hrs on March 6, while Azruddin Mohamed reported to the police around 13:14hrs on the same day.
He was unable to provide the reporting records for the months of January and February, explaining that the Station Sergeant is the custodian of the station diaries, but he is on leave.
Given his inability to provide further information on the days that the Mohameds reported to the station, the Principal Magistrate ordered that the station diaries with the requisite information be handed over to the Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, as the extradition committal proceedings continued, Permanent Secretary Sharon Roopchand returned to the witness box and was cross-examined by Senior Counsel Roysdale Forde, who is representing Azruddin Mohamed.
Roopchand was questioned extensively on a package she received from the US Embassy with documents pertaining to the extradition request on November 26, 2025.
According to Ms. Roopchand, she received a brown folder on the morning of November 26 from a human courier from the US Embassy. However, she was unable to describe the courier’s physical appearance, but confirmed that it was a man.
Roopchand also indicated to the Court that she was not required to sign for the document.
Details of her exchanges with the courier were not detailed in the statement she provided to the Court, but she maintained that the statement was “a full and complete summary” of her handling of documents received from the US.
Roopchand is expected to return to the witness box on Monday.
