Police use drones during marijuana eradication operation in Upper Berbice River areas

The Guyana Police Force announced today that a party of Police ranks led by a senior officer were able to successfully conduct a four-day Narcotics Eradication Operation in the Upper Berbice River. The operation was launched last Friday.

The exercise took the Police to the Ebini Savannahs where the ranks discovered a three-acre marijuana farm with marijuana plants ranging from three feet to six feet in height.

The Police said a makeshift camp was also discovered on the farm, and the camp and marijuana were destroyed.

Using its drones, the Police said another farm was discovered about four miles away from the first farm.

They found about six (6) acres of land already prepared for planting cannabis.

The Police said Four (4) beds of nursery of cannabis plants were seen with approximately five thousand (5,000) seedlings. A makeshift camp measuring about 30×20 feet was also seen and a search was carried out in the camp.

During that search, the ranks discovered two hammocks, one 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun, one Stihl Chainsaw, one Samsung cellphone, a haversack with about four (4) pounds of suspected dried cannabis and a brown cardboard box containing about thirty (30) pounds of dry cannabis.

The Police said they took possession of the firearm, the cellular phone, and the chainsaw, which were lodged at Kwakwani Police Station. The marijuana camp was set on fire, destroying more than$5 million worth in marijuana.

There were no arrests at the two camps.

The Police operation also covered Wiruni, Upper Berbice River, where the ranks found a two-storey wooden house surrounded by trees. While the house was abandoned, the ranks found more than 90 pounds of marijuana along with a .32 pistol and an empty magazine along with two cellphones.

The Police said during the four-day operation, the ranks also conducted another search in Wiruni, where they discovered a one-storey house, where three 20-gauge shotgun cartridges were found along with other items including an outboard engine. The ranks discovered more than 3 acres of land with marijuana plants and a make shift camps. There were no arrests during any of the busts.
