Policeman dies after beating from colleague; Investigation launched

The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old Police Lance Corporal.

The Policeman, Carlos Alleyne, died at the Georgetown Hospital over the weekend after an alleged beating by a Police sergeant.

The beating incident reportedly took place at the Police Constabulary headquarters.

According to reports, the young Policeman was involved in a misunderstanding with the other Policeman on Saturday. The misunderstanding led to a confrontation which resulted in the Lance Corporal being beaten to the head and body by the other Policeman.

Although he complained about the injuries, he was not allowed to seek medical attention until later in the day after he started to lose consciousness.

While undergoing medical treatment, the policeman died.

His superiors reportedly only became aware of his death on Tuesday when they realized he had not been reporting for duty.

A post mortem examination revealed that he died from brain hemorrhage and blunt trauma to the head.

The policeman’s mother only learnt of her son’s death on Wednesday, when she was contacted and asked to visit the Alberttown Police station.

In a statement last evening, the Guyana Police Force said an investigation has begun and it will provide more details when those details become available.
