Mr. Jagdeo said that Mr. Anamayah has told him that he has family commitments that would prevent him from giving up his American citizenship. Jagdeo said he understands the reason.

The Opposition Chief Whip in Parliament, Gail Teixeira, will be renouncing her Canadian citizenship. Jagdeo said he has seen documents to confirm that she has started the process and he is hoping that the process could be expedited.

The other PPP Member of Parliament with dual citizenship is Odinga Lumumba. The Opposition Leader said Lumumba has indicated that he will renounce his US Citizenship but he has not started that process.

Lumumba has stayed away from the US for several years although he holds American citizenship. To renounce his American citizenship, he will have to visit the US Embassy here in Georgetown.

Jagdeo said his three MPs will write the Speaker of the National Assembly soon on the issue.

The Government on Tuesday announced that four of its Members of Parliament who are dual citizens and who also serve as Ministers, will be resigning from their positions. The three APNU MPs will be renouncing their citizenship. The AFC MP was born in the United Kingdom.
