Republic Bank continues support of steel pan literacy programme for schools

Republic Bank is once again demonstrating its corporate responsibility by sponsoring the 2016 edition of the Republic Bank Right Start Pan Minors Music Literacy Programme.

This is the 8th consecutive year the Bank is joining with the Ministry of Education’s, National School of Music, to host the programme.

The Managing Director of Republic Bank, Richard Sammy recently presented a cheque valuing $1.3M to the Minister within the Ministry of Education, Hon. Nicolette Henry at her Main Street Office.

According to a release from the Government Information Agency, Republic Bank is very pleased to express its continued support for steel pan development through its sponsorship of the Republic Bank Right Start Pan Minors Music Literacy Programme 2016. This initiative now in its 8th year is a meaningful engagement for students as part of the Bank’s social investment initiative – ‘The Power to Make a Difference.’

This year’s programme will include seven schools, namely Diamond secondary, Stewartville Secondary, Bladen Hall Secondary, Tutorial high, Tagore Memorial, Berbice High and Bartica Secondary schools. Participants from the PYARG will also be benefiting. This year’s programme will benefit a total of 135 students.

Since the start of the Republic Bank Right Start Pan Minors Music Literacy Programme, 700 students have benefited from the programme, and there has been a notable increase of school bands and participation in the annual steel band competition.
