Three men were arrested late on Wednesday night with unlicensed firearms and ammunition, after they were nabbed by two Police special patrols in the Durban Street area in Georgetown.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, at around 11:30pm on Wednesday, ranks of the CID Special Patrol and the Anti-Crime Patrols received information that led to a silvery-grey coloured car that was being driven along Durban Street, close to Mandela Avenue.
The Police were able surround the car, forcing the driver to stop.
The car was being driven by 27-year-old Neagus Lamazon, who was recently charged in a multi-million dollar robbery at a GBTI night deposit unit. His case is still before the Court.
The other two occupants of the car have been identified as 29-year-old Randolph Norton and 28-year-old Jamal Hazel.
The Police said while a search of the three men did not unearth anything illegal, a search of the car revealed a silver and black .40 pistol along with a magazine containing 13 rounds of .40 ammunition, one black Glock 19 pistol with a magazine containing 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a white box containing 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The three men admitted that they were not holders of firearm licenses, but denied having any knowledge of the weapons and ammunition that were found stashed in the car.
They were told of the related offences and immediately arrested. The Police said it will conduct ballistics tests on the two weapons as charges are being prepared against the trio.
