Police investigators arrested a 23-year-old ex-Police Constable on Saturday after he was found with an AR rifle, a 9mm pistol and ammunition in his possession.
A police statement said the man has been identified as John Moore of East La Penitence.
According to a Police report, on Saturday morning, Police ranks were on an anti-crime patrol when Moore was spotted in Freeman Street, East La Penitence with the AR rifle in his right hand, while wearing a haversack on his back.
The man started to run when he spotted and reportedly threw the gun and the haversack into a yard as the Police gave chase.
He was caught and apprehended, and a search of the haversack revealed 19 .223 rounds of ammunition, a Glock 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, a .32 magazine along with four bank cards and the ID card of the suspect’s reputed wife and the woman’s mother.
The man admitted that he is not a holder of a firearm license and was immediately taken into custody for questioning, while ballistics tests are to be carried out on the weapons.
His reputed wife has also been held for questioning.
A full investigation is underway, according to the Police.
