“Satan” charged and remanded for murder of 14-year-old girl

The prime suspect in the murder of 14-year-old Ann’s Grove resident, Malika Hamilton, was on Tuesday charged and remanded to prison when he made his first appearance at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court.

Twenty-nine-year-old Alvin ‘Satan’ Reid who works in the interior as a miner, was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Zamilla Ally Seepaul.

Police Prosecutor David Goodridge told the court that the teen and Reid who are known to each other went for a swim in the Hope Canal on August 8.

Her body was later found floating in the canal.

Hamilton was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. A Post Mortem Examination later disclosed that she was murdered.

Following the discovery of Hamilton’s body, Reid went into hiding but had appeared on the HGP Nightly News and denied any involvement in the teen’s death.

He claimed that he saw her on the same night that she was reported missing but that was before her whereabouts were unknown.

The suspect told the Court that he was beaten by police ranks who forced him to confess to the crime.

The matter was adjourned to September 28 and transferred to the Cove and John Magistrate’s court.
