Millions of dollars went up in flames this afternoon as a section of the popular G3 Business Complex in Diamond was gutted by fire of unknown origin.
The Fire Service hurried to the scene after receiving emergency calls just before 11 o’ clock this morning.
The blaze started on the top floor of the three-story building and completed gutted the gym that was housed there. Firemen were able to douse the flames before it could engulf the entire complex.
However, there were damages to the other sections of the building which houses a nightspot and a pharmacy.
The Senior Fire Officer at the scene, Gregory Wickham, explained to the media that the Fire Service responded to the emergency with three fire tenders.
“We were able to contain the fire to the top floor of the building. The other floors were not damaged by the Fire and by that we were able to put the fire out. Initially, we used water from the tanks and the fire tenders in attendance and then we had to go to the NDC to get them to close the koker and that was done and we continued our fire fighting”, Mr. Wickham said.
The Manager of the Gym that was gutted, Romelton Siland, said he was not at the scene when the fire started but noted that it was contained to the top flat of the building.
The entire building was evacuated as the Fire Service doused the flames and started their investigations.
