Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh has indicated that the 2022 National Budget will be historic and transformational.
The National Budget is set to be presented in the National Assembly on Wednesday, and already the Finance Minister is boasting of what the budget sets out to achieve.
While not going into specifics, Dr. Singh disclosed on a state-tv programme that several major projects are catered for in the budget.
“Budget 2022 is going to step up the pace with respect to rolling out this government’s agenda for transformation so you are going to see a number of major initiatives will be initiated in 2022,” the Finance Minister said during an interview last night.
Dr. Singh said that the budget, for the most part will see the launching of major projects that were set out in the PPP’s manifesto and which were later articulated by President Ali during his inauguration and subsequent address to the National Assembly.
“The agenda to modernize the face of our country with respect to things like physical infrastructure a lot of that is going to be happening in 2022. So, the theme of transformation and modernization of Guyana is very deeply and heavily imbedded in 2022, there is going to be a lot of that it is very transformational in that regard,” Dr. Singh noted.
Another strong element of the budget the Finance Minister said, will be about creating opportunities for both Guyanese businesses and Guyanese Nationals
“Creation of opportunity, both business opportunities and also employment and entrepreneurial opportunities there is a very strong emphasis on creating opportunities for Guyanese businesses and Guyanese nationals particularly from the stand point of job creation,” the Finance Minister articulated.
The Finance Minister also said one theme of the budget will be focused on how the lives of Guyanese could be improved.
Wednesday’s budget presentation will be the third budget of the Irfaan Ali administration and it is being presented at a time when COVID-19 spread and the cost-of-living are both on the increase.
Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo recently explained that the budget will further provide relief and cushion the effects of the pandemic including the rising cost of living.
