Shuman admits to having no documentary evidence of 2020 election irregularities under cross examination

Former Presidential Candidate of the Liberty and Justice Party (JLP), Lenox Shuman returned to the witness stand today in the 2020 Election Fraud trial and admitted that he had no documentary evidence to support his earlier testimony of “irregularities” during the 2020 General and Regional Elections.

He made the admission under cross-examination by Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes, who is representing a number of the accused in the case.

On Monday, Mr. Shuman testified that he had repeatedly objected to a number of discrepancies during the tabulation of the votes cast in Region 4, and had cause to approach the then Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield twice after a reported attempt to abort the use of Statements of Poll (SOPs) in exchange for a “populated” spreadsheet.”

But when he re-entered the witness box today, Shuman admitted that all he had was his “recollection” of what allegedly transpired, stating repeatedly that he had no documentary evidence to support his claims.

“Would it be correct to say you don’t have any documentary evidence to support any of the inconsistencies you referred to yesterday?” Hughes asked, as he grilled Shuman for a second day.

“In my possession, yes,” Mr. Shuman responded.

In responding to a series of questions posed by Hughes, Shuman also admitted further that he never provided the Guyana Police Force with any documentary evidence of the “inconsistencies” he allegedly witnessed during the course of the 2020 Elections.

At the start of his cross-examination on Monday, Shuman told the Court that at the conclusion of the National Recount in 2020, his party destroyed all elections related materials.

“The only evidence you possess today of what you called alleged inconsistencies is your recollection” Hughes asked, to which, Shuman responded in the affirmative.

On Monday, while being cross-examined by Hughes, Shuman told the Court that though he had “protested” against the “irregularities” and “inconsistencies” during the tabulation of votes at the GECOM Command Centre, his party had only filed one complaint in the form of a request for a recount of votes cast in Region 4.

But he said copies of that request for a recount were also destroyed.

“It would be accurate to say that we disposed of all our elections materials at the conclusion of the recount,” Shuman said.

Shuman was also unable to provide information on the number of ballot boxes or SOPs that were allegedly affected, admitting further that the LJP kept no record.

“Would it also be correct to say that you don’t have a single piece of documented evidence of what you consider an irregularity?” Hughes repeatedly asked, with Shuman responding in the affirmative each time.

Nine election officials and political leaders, including the former Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield and the former Deputy CEO, Roxanne Myers, are on trial, accused of attempting to declare fraudulent results during the course of the 2020 Elections. They have all denied the charges.
