Sol Guyana today announced that it has launched an internal review following the deadly Sunday night terror attack at one of its Mobil service stations at Regent Street which claimed the life of six-year-old Soraya Bourne.
In a release today, Sol said it is deeply saddened by the tragic explosion which resulted in a loss of life.
The entity said authorities led by the Ministry of Home Affairs are still on-site conducting their investigation.
The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that the incident is being treated as a criminal matter and that a suspect is presently in Police custody assisting with the investigation after being arrested and confessing to the crime.
Sol said it remains fully committed to cooperating with the relevant authorities as the investigation continues and has also launched an internal review in collaboration with the retailer.
“We recognize the public concern surrounding this devastating incident and reaffirm that the safety and well-being of our team, customers, and community remain our top priority,” Sol said in a brief statement today.
Sol said it will continue to share verified updates as they become available and urges the public to follow official safety guidance and avoid the affected area while investigations are ongoing.
The Guyana Police Force announced yesterday that it has apprehended the main suspect in the deadly gas station bombing. He has been identified as Venezuelan national, Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo, who entered Guyana by boat from Venezuela illegally on Sunday morning, hours before the attack in Georgetown.
The bombing is being treated as a terrorist attack as the Guyana Police Force continue its investigation to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
