One of the soldiers who was badly injured on Saturday when pyrotechnics material exploded during its transfer, has died from the burn injuries that he sustained.
Corporal Seon Rose passed away this morning at the Georgetown Hospital. He was burnt to 90% of his body and his prognosis was not good. He was 31-years-old.
President David Granger in a statement today issued his sympathy to the young soldier’s widow and relatives, along with the GDF.
The Ministry of the Presidency in a statement saidĀ Corporal Rose enlisted in the GDF on September 7, 2008 and joined the 21 Artillery Company on November 14, 2008. The Artillery Company is the special branch of the GDF that overlooks the fireworks display.
The soldiers were preparing for the Republic Anniversary fireworks display when the material suddenly exploded during transfer. A number of the soldiers sustained burns to their bodies. Three others are still listed in a critical condition.
An investigation has been launched to ascertain what triggered the explosion.
