Speaker wants National Assembly to meet on November 6

The Speaker of the National Assembly Raphael Trotman has instructed the Clerk of the National Assembly to convene a Sitting of the Assembly for November 6, 2014.

Trotman’s decision comes in wake of the government’s refusal to set a date for the National Assembly to reconvene. The Speaker said he sought guidance and legal advice before coming up with his decision to reconvene the National Assembly.

The Alliance For Change is expected to move its no confidence motion against the Government of Guyana at the November 6, 2014 Sitting. Once the motion is passed, the government will be forced to call national elections within three months. The combined opposition parties hold  the majority in the National Assembly and the APNU has already indicated that it will support the no confidence motion against the government.

The Speaker has written to the Leaders of the Parliamentary parties explaining to them his decision.
