Longtime sports journalist Rawle Welch, lost his William Street, Kitty home this afternoon in a blazing fire.
The Fire Service was summoned to the scene a little before 4pm after receiving multiple calls about the fire.
A neighbour said a loud noise was heard, and he noticed the flickering of lights just before the house was spotted engulfed in flames.
He explained that it took minutes for the partly wooden house to be completely engulfed in flames.
The fire made its way to a nearby house where national boxer Keevin Allicock lives, but the action of the Fire Service resulted in only a section of that nearby house being affected.
A distraught Rawle Welch explained that he had just left his home to pick up his son, when he received a call about the fire.
“I just left the house to go and collect my son from work, and I got a call from my sister telling me that there was smoke coming from my your street. So I couldn’t believe there was anything untoward, because I just left the house and I left my wife downstairs in the yard and my big son upstairs…I said it can’t be my home cause I just left the house but then after my friend in the street, and my sister called me back and said it was my home…my wife suffered some burns to her forehead and her hands, and luckily that was the amount of injuries, but the family is in tact, but we lost everything”, he said.
He said his family lost everything in the fire and will now have to pick up all the pieces again.
