Several persons have been left homeless following an early morning fire in the Kitty area.
Firefighters were called to the scene of the blaze in Sandy Babb Street in the wee hours of this morning as the fire engulfed and completely gutted at least three buildings, including one that housed a liquor store.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but many persons in the Sandy Babb Street area were forced out of their homes as the fire ripped through the three buildings and threatened others.
At one stage, the fire jumped onto a power pole and engulfed a parked vehicle.
Some Residents praised the response of the fire service and admitted that there was not much that the firemen could have done as the fire was supported by light winds.
The Fire service was forced to source water from nearby areas.
The fire in Kitty came just hours after firemen battled another blaze, in the Agricola community last evening.
The fire in 4th street Agricola was contained to the one house, which was completely gutted. A number of persons have been left homeless as a result of that fire also.
